Introduction
We are thrilled to look back at our organization's first-ever summer program, held in 2019, as we reflect on the impactful discussions, transformative mentorship, and valuable connections that were formed. This program brought together a diverse group of passionate individuals to engage in meaningful dialogue, empower one another, and embark on a journey of personal growth. We are immensely grateful for the support of the Agent of Change, who provided VR equipment, and KOK Space, who graciously offered their venue, making this program possible.
Venue and Dates
The program took place at the KOK Space, a vibrant and conducive environment for learning and collaboration. In-person discussions were held from July 15th to July 19th, with each session lasting 2 hours. The mentorship component extended from July 22nd to December 31st, 2019, allowing for continued support and guidance beyond the initial relationship formed.
Discussion Topics
The program comprised four engaging discussion sessions, tailored to the unique perspectives and interests of both primary and secondary school groups. The primary school groups explored thought-provoking topics such as "Views on 'winning on the starting line,'" "Food," "Social media," and "Rebellion in youngsters." The secondary school groups delved into pressing issues including "Land supply in Hong Kong," "The education system in Hong Kong," "The medical system in Hong Kong," and "Hong Kong-mainland conflicts." These discussions provided a platform for participants to express their opinions, broaden their perspectives, and critically analyze these important topics.
Mentorship Workshops
As part of the program, mentorship workshops were conducted to provide valuable guidance and support to the participants. These workshops focused on various aspects of personal development, including handling stress, navigating interpersonal relationship challenges, and life planning. Through these workshops, mentors worked closely with their mentees to equip them with essential life skills and empower them to overcome obstacles on their academic and personal journeys.
Organizing Committee
The success of our program would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our organizing committee. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Vivian Looi, Joivia So, and Shirley Li for their tireless efforts in coordinating and planning this enriching experience.
Facilitators and Media Production
A team of passionate and experienced facilitators contributed their expertise to guide and nurture meaningful discussions. We express our appreciation to Amanda Looi, Annie Lee, Whitney Lo, Valerie So, Yu Ming Chi, Chloe Young, May Xu, and Phoebe Chan for their dedication and commitment to facilitating engaging and thought-provoking conversations. Additionally, we extend our thanks to Abby Chung and Katrina Liu for their excellent work in media production, capturing the essence of our program and creating lasting memories.
Conclusion
As we reflect on our organization's first-ever summer program, we are filled with gratitude for the incredible support of the Agent of Change, who provided VR equipment, and KOK Space, who generously offered their venue. This program marked the beginning of our journey to empower individuals through meaningful discussions, transformative mentorship, and personal growth. We are excited about the positive impact we made in the lives of our participants, equipping them with valuable skills to handle stress, navigate interpersonal relationships, and plan for their future. We look forward to creating more opportunities for growth, learning, and collaboration in the future.
